COMMERCIAL SCAFFOLDING PROJECT OVERVIEW
In mid-2023, we at AAA Scaffolding UK were engaged to deliver comprehensive commercial scaffolding services for a refurbishment project on High Street, Huntly. The project involved regenerating a large three-storey commercial block, converting ground-floor retail units and upper-floor offices. Due to the prominent facade, busy pedestrian frontage, and central location, we carefully planned specialist access solutions to ensure safety and efficiency throughout the project. Following the success of this work, our team also supported similar refurbishment and maintenance projects across Stonehaven, delivering tailored scaffolding solutions for complex coastal and urban environments.
SCOPE OF WORK
We delivered a full suite of scaffolding services, including:

-
Designing and erecting wrap-around facade and roof access scaffolds, complete with pedestrian protection and covered walkways.
-
Erecting a full perimeter scaffold up to the rooftop parapet for facade repairs, window replacements, and roof servicing.
-
Conducting weekly inspections and compliance checks in line with UK Work at Height Regulations and industry standards.
-
Dismantling the scaffold once primary works were completed, outside retail trading hours to minimise disruption.

TIMESCALE AND PROJECT VALUE
The scaffold was erected in July 2023 and remained in place through March 2024, with dismantling in April 2024. The client estimated the scaffolding package, including hire, erection, dismantle, and transport, at approximately £80–90k.
CHALLENGES AND OUR SOLUTIONS
-
TOWN-CENTRE POSITION & FOOTFALL: High pedestrian traffic required safe access and minimal disruption. We installed covered pedestrian canopies, netting, and signage, coordinating with the contractor and local authority.
-
HISTORIC FACADE & NARROW ACCESS: The building featured heritage stone mullions and decorative lintels with limited rear access. We used independent bay scaffold support, positioned boards carefully to avoid stonework, and incorporated stair towers with minimal footprint.
-
WEATHER & HEIGHT CONSTRAINTS: Scottish wind and rain, along with roof-level works, demanded wind-rated components, secure tie points, debris netting, and phased dismantling to mitigate weather impacts.
-
COORDINATION WITH MULTIPLE TRADES: Roofers, window installers, and facade renovators required sequential access. We implemented a scaffold sequencing plan to allow extensions and reuse, avoiding multiple full rebuilds.

PROJECT LOCATION AND CLIENT DETAILS
The project was located in the heart of Huntly’s commercial district on High Street. We worked closely with the main contractor, responsible for the fit-out and external works, to provide scaffolding that met all operational and safety requirements.
OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS
We provided safe and efficient access throughout the works, allowing facade repairs, window replacement, and roof servicing to progress without delays. Pedestrian safety was fully maintained, and retail traffic experienced minimal disruption. The scaffold was dismantled on schedule and within budget, helping the contractor complete external works on time. The refurbished commercial building now positively enhances Huntly’s High Street, supporting local business occupancy and town-centre regeneration.
"Brilliant service. Good bunch of lads and cost-effective. All done to a high standard. Couldn’t thank them enough"
